About My Toolbox

This is the software I use. The idea of this page is to share my toolbox with you. It also helps me remember the names of some of these apps, and it only lists what I’ve really used a lot. It’s not meant to be an exhaustive list of alternatives; it’s here to show you software that solves the problem.

I value local-first, open-source software, and that’s most of what you’ll find here.

Reading the cards

  • Open Source (green ribbon): free, and the source code is public. Note that some open-source apps are only free on some platforms.
  • Free (red ribbon): free to use, but not open source.
  • CLI only: runs in a terminal, with no graphical interface.
  • No ribbon: a paid app that I paid for and still think is worth it.

Finding something for your device

Use Show only in the toolbar to pick one or more platforms. Categories and tools that don’t run on them are hidden, and the address bar keeps your choice, so you can share or bookmark a filtered view.
